Eric Ravilious - Drawn to War

I worked on this documentary as an After-effects animator bringing some of Eric Ravilious’ paintings to life. The biggest challenge in this kind of work, is the cutting of the elements out of a painting to animate them into the final composition. In order for it to work you have to reproduce the original artwork as if the elements you are animating weren’t there in the first place. This was particularly challenging with Eric Ravilious’ work as the brushstrokes are so distinctive. So the most time consuming aspect of the job was making sure that each brushstroke, I had to add or increase, was consistent with his style.
